Official step-by-step tutorial series: build your first complete 2D game with Godot.

Image: Godot Docs

Your first 2D game is the step-by-step tutorial series in the official Godot documentation. By the end you have a simple but complete game called "Dodge the Creeps!", where your character moves around and avoids enemies for as long as possible.

The docs say the project is an introduction to the Godot engine and assumes you already have some programming experience; complete beginners are pointed to the scripting languages page first. Godot recommends starting with this 2D series before its similar 3D series.

What it covers

  • Create a complete 2D game with the Godot editor
  • Structure a simple game project
  • Move the player character and change its sprite
  • Spawn random enemies
  • Count the score
